Doula

What is a Doula?

The word doula comes from Ancient Greek and refers to a woman of service. The use of this word today more commonly means labor support person or birthworker. Doulas can provide support to the mother and her family prenatally, during labor, during birth and postpartum.

My intention is to ensure women are having satisfying, safe birth experiences. I believe in the mother’s ability to know what is best for her and her baby, and I support her decisions. I provide continuous emotional, physical and informational support to the mother and, if present, her partner. As a doula, I do not have my own agenda. My role is to meet the needs of the mother and her family.
